ABOUT US The team at Attachment and Trauma Therapy provide a warm, positive and family-oriented style, allowing children, teens, and families a safe place to work through their challenges. Our areas of focus include adoption, attachment, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), depression, divorce, sensory processing disorder (SPD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), selective mutism, and trauma.
Our therapists use the latest research in play therapy, neurobiology, trauma, and attachment theory to inform our treatment. We draw from experts in the field including Dr. Bruce Perry, Dan Siegel, Karen Purvis, Heather Forbes, Ana Gomez and Dan Hughes.
Play and playful interaction always undergird therapy to create a sense of safety that allows a child or teen to feel comfortable processing their challenges in life whether they are struggling with hard emotions like anxiety or depression, family conflicts, or other mental health issues.
We believe collaboration with parents is essential for the child's healing. At our office, parents will be informed every step of the way. Parents are often invited to participate as a therapeutic presence for their child. The deep, emotional connection between the parent and child can be a powerful agent for healing. At times, it may be appropriate for the child to meet with the therapist individually. In such cases, the therapist will provide general updates on progress while maintaining the child or teen's privacy.

PLAY THERAPY Play therapy involves the use of play to communicate with children and to help children learn to solve problems and change their negative behaviors. Children naturally engage in play to create meaning and organize their experiences. This allows children to distance themselves from difficult feelings and memories through symbolic expression, using the toys as the medium to disclose these feelings. The therapeutic playroom becomes a sacred place to process and explore painful fears, anxieties and inadequacies.
EMDR EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that has been very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post traumatic stress and many other emotional problems. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. Our therapists have received specialized training to use EMDR with children and teens. Play, Sandtray and Expressive Art materials are used to help children and teens approach difficult material in a gradual and manageable way.
Trust Based Relational Intervention
Trust Based Relational Intervention® was founded by Dr. Karyn Purvis to support children from hard places using intervention based on the research of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience. This trauma-informed intervention utilizes key areas to address the needs of vulnerable children who have experienced abuse, neglect, foster care, adoption, and special needs (including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and SPD). It is also considered optimal parenting to develop healthy and secure attachments for children to thrive through connection.
